Chief Purchasing Officer (m/f)

In this role your main responsibility is to lead the purchase, supply and merchandising of products for sale across the Calumet Wex group of companies (‘the Group’), maximising value through the balance of pricing, inventory, distribution, cash flow and supplier management on a strategic level. You will report directly to the Board of Calumet Wex International.

Primary Objectives:

  • Consolidate purchasing for the Group into a central organization and ensure the maximum level of product gross margin

  • Aggregate stock levels throughout the Group are aligned to sales, achieving net positive cash flow

  • Deliver the ideal range of product lines for the business model and ensure they are merchandised effectively across all channels

  • Ensure the maximum possible value is extracted from the supply chain (from original vendor to customer/user and original equipment manufacturers in the development of the Group’s “own brand" product range

  • Expand the Group’s “own brand” range to deliver profitable structural growth and improved quality of earnings

  • Ensure frictionless movement of goods between the Group’s warehouses

Key Accountabilities:

  • Establish the medium- and long-term goals for product management throughout the Group

  • Through country purchasing managers, manage all stock holding throughout the Group to ensure optimal net working capital and enhance cash flow

  • Direct management of country purchasing leaders and their teams, currently located in the UK and Germany

  • Negotiate commercial terms with strategic suppliers on a Group-wide basis and maintain commercial relationships with key international suppliers at a global and regional level

  • Develop the Group product range strategy, continuously seeking opportunities for structural sales growth

  • Leverage customer insights across our markets to develop a long-term strategy for category expansion

  • Own the pricing strategy for the Group with the view to achieving balance between turnover, gross profit and market share

  • Ensure the efficient and transparent movement of product sales data for internal and external use

  • Ensure supply continuity during periods of constrained stock or supply-chain breakdown

Skills and Experience

  • Several years of experience within, or leading, a large purchasing and category management organisation, preferably a retailer with a wide portfolio of suppliers and brands

  • Practical experience of working with a logistics function, specifically warehouse management and end-user drop-ship processes in the context of a consumer sales operation

  • Demonstrable experience of leading a strategic change in the purchasing structure of complex organisations, delivering added value for stakeholders and customers

  • Practical experience of managing international supply chains and purchasing teams remotely

  • A team player with strong negotiation skills, who has proved they can collaborate in an international organisation

  • A highly analytical mindset, having the ability to turn data insights into practical steps

  • Experience of working with forecasting systems, with proven record of maintaining efficient levels of stock and cash flow
